Dedicated to building economies that benefit people and the planetThe world is confronted with unprecedented challenges, notably climate change, the current COVID-19 global pandemic, the rise of populism and the digital and biological revolutions. The first three threaten the economic and social wellbeing of this and the next generations; the last one is both a source of disruption and considerable opportunities. All of them constitute major change factors as the responses to these challenges will shape the world of tomorrow. E4S is founded on the conviction that our world is at a critical juncture and that many drivers of our social and economic lives will soon be unrecognizable. This situation creates both uncertainties and opportunities.

The Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School was founded in 2005 through a generous gift from Joseph H. Flom and the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation. The Center’s founding mission was to promote interdisciplinary analysis and legal scholarship in these fields. Today, the Center has grown into a leading research program dedicated to the unbiased legal and ethical analysis of pressing questions facing health policymakers, medical professionals, patients, families, and others who influence and are influenced by health care and the health care system. To achieve this goal, the Center fosters a community of leading intellectuals, practitioners, and policymakers from a variety of backgrounds at all stages in their careers, across Harvard University and across the world.

The Center for International and Comparative Law has always looked to the world writ large to explore new perspectives, advance new ideas, impact the development of law and legal systems, create globally fluent lawyers, and inspire personal growth. They support the intellectual life and teaching activities of the Michigan Law School faculty with the pursuit and creation of opportunities in international and comparative law scholarship and teaching in the U.S. and abroad. They safeguard and enhance the Law School’s reputation for excellence in international and comparative law and increase its worldwide recognition as a first mover and preeminent leader in these fields.

The Center for Tax Law and Policy at Penn brings together the scholars at Penn Law who study the design and operation of tax and transfer systems. The Center’s substantive focus is on pressing issues of fiscal policy, with close attention paid to the implications for economic growth and efficiency, socioeconomic inequality, and the cost effective administration of programs and rules.The Center’s methodological approach is eclectic, drawing simultaneously from areas as diverse as legal studies, economics, finance, psychology, and philosophy. Capitalizing on Penn’s unique cross-disciplinary connectivity, the Center stands as one of the nation’s preeminent institutes for the study of tax and transfer policy.
